That's 500kg more than the sold-out Senna road car. The real thing also takes far less time to construct.  Just 300 man hours go into the assembly of the genuine article - that means McLaren's production line can churn out nine of the ultra-exclusive £750,000 vehicles in the same time it takes to click all the pieces of the Lego one into place. Underneath is a steel reinforced frame and most of the interior components - including the driver's seat - are taken from the actual car. It also sits on four genuine wheels and tyres, though fitted with Lego brake calipers and discs. The see-through dihedral doors are all Lego, but they don't close on a hinge. Instead, they have to be removed and then slotted into place by hand - each one at a weight of 70kg. Once you're inside you do get to experience what starting the Senna sounds like; press the ignition button - correctly mounted on a switch above your head - and dab the accelerator pedal to enjoy a synthesised version of the eight-cylinder power unit's howl. The bricks are glued into place for extra reinforcement. It means every panel can withstand a 50kg vertical load (just in case a small child decides to climb over it) ‹ Slide me › The dihedral doors, fitted with a see-through panel like the real thing, are also made from Lego and weight 70kg each.
