Shangrila began in Skardu, Baltistan, in 1983 with the opening of the first Resort Hotel. It was given the name “HEAVEN ON EARTH” because of its breathtaking beauty, peaceful atmosphere, and breathtaking view. Brig. (Retd) Muhammad Aslam Khan, the first commander of the Northern Scouts who liberated the Northern areas in 1948, founded the Shangrila Resort Hotel.
Shangrila was named after James Hilton’s book “LOST HORIZON.” The author tells a fictional story about an aero plane crash landing near a riverbed in the early 1920s. The surviving passengers sought assistance from some Buddhist monks from a nearby temple. They were taken to a lovely lamasery that was brimming with fruits and flowers. Despite their claims to be hundreds of years old, the monks appeared to be quite young. Shangrila was the name of the idyllic location, which means “HEAVEN ON EARTH” in Chinese.
We’d like to introduce you to Shangrila Heaven on Earth, which is located in Pakistan’s Northern Areas.
